Week Development in Pregnancy
1-4 Weeks
Fertilization occurs when a female egg and a male sperm meet in a large tube. The fertilized egg is called an embryo and continues to develop as it enters the uterus from the tube.
5-8 Weeks
It is possible to see the gestational sac with ultrasound starting from the 5th week. The first ultrasound examination is important in the determination of the settlement of the pregnancy and the number of babies.
9-12 Week
The baby is called fetus starting from the 9th week. The tail has completely disappeared and its height has exceeded 2.5 cm. Its weight is approximately 2 grams. Limbs start to lengthen; fingers and toes start to take shape.
13-16 Week
Starting from the 13th week, your baby has entered into the 2nd trimester. It has reached the size of a plum with a height of 8-10 cm and a weight of 25-30 g. Its head is approximately 1/3 of its body.
17-20 Week
At the 17th week, your baby has a height of 13-14 cm and a weight of 140 g. Its genital organs can be observed with ultrasound more prominently. Its permanent and temporary teeth have formed.
21-24 Week
At the 21st week, your baby’s height is up to 23-25 cm and weight is around 300-350 g. Your baby has periods for sleep and wakefulness. His/her eyebrows and eyelashes become more distinct.
25-28 Week
Senses of taste and touch have developed. With the functioning of the optic nerve, the relationship between the eye and the brain is formed. The baby may react to light.
29-32 Week
Your baby has a height of 40 cm and a weight of 1200 - 1300 g. However, since he/she is curled onto himself/herself, measurement of the height is not performed with ultrasound examination after the first 4 months of pregnancy.
33-36 Week
At the 33rd week, your baby has a height of over 45 cm and a weight of 1900 g. The amount of amnion fluid will decrease a little since the baby grows up and takes more space.
37-40 Week
At the 37th week your baby has a height over 48 cm and a weight of 2900 g. His/her brain and skull continue to grow. During these weeks, your doctor will perform a pelvic examination.
